IT staff earning record breaking rates of pay
March 05, 2007

The latest findings from the iProfile Skills Survey, commissioned by ATSCo and produced by SkillsMarket, showed that the IT market continued to improve during the last quarter of 2006 with both contract and permanent IT staff earning record breaking rates of pay. The highest pay rates since our records began in Q2 2002.

However, only permanent IT staff saw an increase in their pay rates during the final quarter of 2006 with contract staff’s pay rates remaining unchanged.

iProfile Index is based upon the pay rates provided by IT professionals
in their iProfile and is taken from a baseline figure of 100 in Q2 2002

Ann Swain, CEO of the Association of Technology Staffing Companies (ATSCo) commented: ”2006 has been a great year for the IT recruitment industry. Both contract and permanent IT staff saw an overall 9% increase in pay rates, bringing their pay rates up to record levels. The difficulty for our members now is finding good candidates, as 2006 saw the market become much more candidate driven, especially in niche skill areas.”

Stephanie Elliott, Managing Director, Volt Europe commented: “Volt Europe has seen a substantial increase in the demand for both permanent and contract staff during Q4 2006, continuing the trend from earlier in the year and helped by a buoyant financial services sector. We expect to see this upward trend to continue in 2007 as the demand for specific skills (e.g. financial services applications development) will remain high and contractor rates also increase due to a diminishing candidate pool and, in some cases, large companies moving out of London while continuing to offer similar rates to attract the best possible candidates.”

Lisa Kwiecinska, Operations Director at Recruitment Zone, commented: “Recruitment Zone had a very busy Q4 2006. This was as a result of new clients generating a significant number of new roles in addition to existing key customers embarking on new projects requiring additional contract resource. We have seen an upturn in vacancies and the challenge for 2007 is making sure we have a large enough candidate pool to satisfy these vacancies.”

The iProfile Skills Survey is the UK’s most comprehensive guide for benchmarking the value of IT staff for both permanent and contract roles. In contrast to any other salary survey, the iProfile Skills Survey is based upon the actual pay rates of IT professionals rather than those displayed in job adverts. It is also much more detailed, enabling consultants to pinpoint the value of an IT professional based upon a number of different parameters.
