IT market continues to improve
September 16, 2006

The latest findings from the iProfile Skills Survey, produced by SkillsMarket, showed that pay rates continued to increase for permanent IT professionals with contractors seeing the first increase in their pay rates for over 18 months. Ann Swain, CEO of the Association of Technology Staffing Companies (ATSCo) commented: "Our members are continuing to report a strong market, with an increasing demand for both permanent and contract IT staff."

At £37 per hour, the median rate reported by contract IT staff was also up on the previous quarter (6%) and is now, as is the case for permanent salaries, at its highest level for four years.

Swain continued: "After remaining stagnant for the last 18 months, contractors have finally seen an increase in their pay rates. This follows a continued increase in the pay rates of permanent IT staff over the last three quarters. Recruiters are finding it increasingly hard to find good candidates and are therefore needing to become much more innovative when it comes to locating them. As a result, candidates are benefiting from being able to be much more selective about the roles they take. With more and more companies investing in IT projects and their infrastructure, we have particularly seen an increase in demand for roles such as Project Managers, Team Leaders, Test Managers, Infrastructure Architects and Service Delivery Managers."

The iProfile Skills Survey is the UK's most comprehensive guide for benchmarking the value of IT staff for both permanent and contract roles. In contrast to any other salary survey, the iProfile Skills Survey is based upon the actual pay rates of IT professionals rather than those displayed in job adverts. It is also much more detailed, enabling consultants to pinpoint the value of an IT professional based upon a number of different parameters.
